Total Triage
What is Total Triage?
Our practice is moving to a total triage system.
This means all requests for appointments or advice—whether by phone or online—will be assessed or triaged first by a GP, before an appointment is booked.
Every patient will be offered the most appropriate care, which may include:
- A same-day telephone or face-to-face appointment
- Advice or treatment from another healthcare professional (e.g. pharmacist, nurse, physiotherapist)
- Help with self-care or community services
- A routine appointment at a later date
Why are we changing?
We are making this change to:
- Make sure patients get the right care, from the right person, at the right time
- Reduce waiting times for those who need urgent help
- Free up GP appointments for people who really need to see a doctor
- Improve access and safety for everyone
How does it work?
- You contact us
- Use our online form on the practice website (preferred option), or
- Call the practice, and our reception team will help complete the triage form with you.
- Your request is reviewed by a clinician or trained triage team member.
They will decide what type of care is best for your needs.
- We’ll contact you
You’ll receive a text message, phone call, or email with:
- Advice or information, or
- An appointment time, if needed
What are the benefits?
- You won’t have to wait on the phone at 8am or 2pm for an appointment.
- Everyone gets care based on clinical need, not on who calls first.
- It’s easier to get help and advice quickly.
What do you need to do?
- Visit our website and complete the online consultation form which is situated in the green banner “NHS Contact us online”
- whenever you need medical help or advice.
- If you can’t use the internet, call us—our reception team will help.
- Please give as much detail as possible so we can direct you appropriately.
