Blood Tests

We now offer blood testing in Practice on Mondays and Tuesdays, please call reception to book in. 

Alternatively routine blood tests are now only available via appointment. You can book an appointment by calling 01702 746065, the booking line is open Monday to Friday from 07:30 to 17:00.

Urgent blood tests are performed at Southend Victoria Shopping Centre - simply turn up and speak to the reception regarding this.

Fasting Blood Tests

If you are asked to attend for a fasting blood test, you must book a blood test clinic appointment and should not eat or drink anything after 10pm the previous night other than plain water. You should not chew chewing gum (even sugar free) or eat mints, cough drops, cough linctuses or throat lozenges. You should continue to take any normal medication during this time. Seek advice from your doctor if you are on medication that should be taken with food or if you are diabetic.

If required to have a glucose tolerance test you will need to fast, have two appointments 2 hours apart and you will need to remain in the clinic for the duration of the test (failure to do so will affect your results).

Test Results

We usually receive blood test results after one week.

Tests such as X-rays and urine samples can take up to 10 days depending on urgency.

If tests are requested by the hospital or any other specialist services, your results will be sent directly to your consultant and not always to your GP Practice.

Once our clinical team have taken a look at your results, you will be contacted only if the clinican feels there is something they would like to discuss with you.

Due to the high volume of results we process, you will not be contacted if the clinical team feels that no further action is needed.

You can now view your own test results online through the NHS APP, if you would like access to your medical records please contact our team and they will guide you through the process.

Please call after 10am on the main surgery number if you have any question about your test results and our team will endeavor to assit you.

Please note that we do have a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection. In this respect we will only give out results to the person they relate to unless that person has given prior permission for their release or if they are not capable of understanding them.

It is your responsibility to check for results and make any necessary follow-up appointment, if needed.
